  • TRAIL 9 RE-OPENED: After a 13-month closure due to damage from flooding, the ladder structures have been re-built and trail 9 is now open for hiking again.
  • U.S. 41 CLOSED (July 6-Sept 2026): U.S. 41 is closed by Sugar Creek. The official detour around the closure follows U.S. 41 to State Road 47 to County Road 750 W to S.R. 234 and back to U.S. 41.
  • S.R. 47 CLOSED (Aug 3-Sept 2026): S.R. 47 is closed from S.R. 234 to Co. Rd. 950 S. The official detour around the closure follows S.R. 47 to S.R. 234 to U.S. 231 to S.R. 236 to S.R. 59 and back to S.R. 47.

2026 END-OF-SEASON POOL ALERT::
The outdoor pool is only open the following days: August 7, 8, and 9, 2026. It will close for the season after Sunday, August 9.
FLOODING UPDATE 8-14-2026: Pine Hills Nature Preserve within Shades State Park is closed due to the flooding of Indian and Clifty Creeks. Trail #7 at both Turkey Run and Shades State Parks are closed. The remaining tails at both properties are open but are very muddy and slippery due to excessive rainfall in recent days. Use extreme caution. Please check back here or on Facebook for updates.

Nestled along State Road 47 southwest of Crawfordsville, the park offers the chance to explore deep, sandstone ravines, walk along stands of aged forests, and enjoy the scenic views along Sugar Creek.

Make sure to visit the Colonel Richard Lieber Cabin, which commemorates the contributions of the father of Indiana's state park system.
