Prophetstown State Park Charlestown State Park Summit Lake State Park
Prophetstown State Park
Come and explore Indiana's newest state park located just off of I-65 near West Lafayette where the name Prophetstown comes from its rich Native American history. See the prairie landscape as our early inhabitants may have seen it, and camp in our campground that offers full hookup and pull thru sites. Hike to the area where the two rivers meet, and understand why this area was chosen by our early inhabitants as home. Access our paved bike trail, and tour through the prairie to see how Prophetstown State Park is unique from our other state parks. You won't be disappointed!
Charlestown State Park
Once a largely undeveloped portion of the 15,000-acre Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, Charlestown State Park is located in beautiful land of southern Indiana. With scenic vistas of the Fourteenmile Creek valley and the Ohio River, and elevation changes of over 200 feet, Charlestown has much to offer the visitor with its rugged hills and deep ravines. The park is also good place to see wildlife including deer, turkeys, beaver, birds, and more. Now open, is the relocated historic iron bridge from Porterville, IN. This 99-year-old bridge allows visitors access to Rose Island by foot, which began as a picnic site in the late 1800's.
Summit Lake State Park
Summit Lake is well-known for its good fishing, its restored prairie fields and the large variety of birds. Anglers find good fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, walleye, and channel catfish some that exceed 10 pounds. The good water quality and the scenic vistas add to the angler's experience. There are approximately 200 acres of restored prairie fields, some that are filled with flowers that peak in June and July each year. The birding opportunities are special. More than 250 species of birds have been spotted here because of the variety of habitats. Hikers will enjoy the four trails that border the lake as well as wind through the prairies, woodlands and wetlands. Our campground is all Class A with some sites located on the lake. In addition, we have a boat launch located in the campground. Come visit and enjoy.
