DETOUR TO BROWN COUNTY HORSE CAMP:: State Road 135 is currently closed between Bellsville Pike and Reed Hollow Road to complete a small structure replacement. The closure is located approximately five miles south of S.R. 46 near Stonehead and is expected to take up to 20 days, weather permitting. Unfortunately, this closure blocks access to the South Gate (also known as the "Horse Camp Gate") into Brown County State Park’s Equestrian Campground. You will not be able to enter the horse camp from S.R. 46 on S.R. 135. Motorists should use the official INDOT detour route, which follows I-65 to S.R. 58 West, instead of S.R. 46. From S.R. 58, follow your preferred mapping app, or take S.R. 58 to S.R. 135 north to the Horse Camp (South Gate) entrance. Note that this stretch of S.R. 135 will add considerable time to the detour and has several winding areas that may require slower speeds when traveling with a camper or a trailer hauling horses. Please check back for updates.
FAMILY CAMPGROUND: All RVs and vehicles towing trailers MUST use the park's west entrance on State Road 46 two miles west of Nashville, Indiana. The park's north entrance east of Nashville has a historic Covered Bridge with a 9-foot height clearance and 3-ton weight limit. Oversized vehicles cannot use the north entrance. Horsemen's Campground: For equestrian users, the Horsemen's Campground entrance is on S.R. 135, five miles south of the intersection with S.R. 46.
Note: All campground users should note that GPS directions may not always send you to the correct entrances.

Brown County State Park, IN

Description

Nicknamed the "Little Smokies" because of the area's resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and fogshrouded ravines. Glaciers from the most recent ice ages stopped short of the "hills o'Brown," but their meltwaters helped create the narrow ridges, steep slopes and deep gullies of Brown County State Park. Indiana's largest park is a traditional fall color hot spot, with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and many scenic vistas overlooking miles of uninterrupted forestland. The park's rustic Abe Martin Lodge offers accommodations that include motel rooms, cabins, dining and conference facilities and an indoor water park. Large campgrounds, hiking and mountain biking trails, interpretive services, a saddle barn for guided horse rides and a separate horseman campground with 70 miles of horse trails are some of the things that make Brown County State Park popular year-round.

The surrounding county and nearby Indiana town of Nashville are famous for their unique shopping, dining, arts and crafts, history, entertainment, and outdoor adventure opportunities. Contact the Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau at www.browncounty.com or 1-800-753-3255 for more information.
